I saw these tips published on the MyPaper 5 Jan 2011. I thought it was pretty neat and really, we all need good reminders why we should sleep early and not doing a Korean drama marathon. I don't anyway, but watching too many beauty youtubes ain't helping.
1. Choose the right time to sleep
Our metabolism is at its prime during 10pm to 2am, hence we should really strive to sleep before 11pm and at least 8 hours. This way, our skin will get the best care from our body itself.
2. Mask, the key to fight dehydration
Dehydration is the biggest problem our skin encounters at night, so cultivate a good habit and do mask every night. The skin will be nourished and hydrated! Massage the face first before placing your mask, it helps the skin to absorb more goodness.
3. Eye cream
I'm sure most of us apply eye cream and moisturizer at night, before we sleep. But if we coupled with some gentle massages around the eye area, it helps to improve blood circulation and minimize dark eye rings, eye bags and swollen eye. Dark eye circles are actually bruises under the eye, and we usually massage the area where we get blue-blacks right?
4. Night protection for lips
Night time is the time when our lips get to rest after a day of eating, talking and kissing (those lucky ones). So why not give the lips a good jacuzzi style treatment? Use a soft toothbrush gently scrub away those dead skins and then apply lip balm to nourish and hydrate. Some lip treatment comes with both scrub and balm, which is good too.
5. Do not apply too many products before sleep.
A simple dose of essence and moisturizer is good enough for the skin's self repair. More importantly, let the skin breathe!
6. Switch off the light
Our skin reacts to light. When it sense light, the cells will be on standby mode, to contract and release. The skin will not get the best out of those products nutrients then.
7. Avoid coffee or tea at night
To get a well rest, avoid drinks with caffeine bed time. Dim lights and lavender scent helps to promote better sleep too. For water, drink at least 2 hours before you sleep to avoid swollen eyes the next day.
Hope these helps!
